On September 24th, folks worked to honor Valeta Palank, a long-time active member
of Wild River Audubon and a sixth grade teacher for many years, by
erecting a set of bird feeders at the school. The Minnesota Ornithologists'
Union provided educational material on identifying birds. See the
write up
and pictures of the installing the bird feeders at Lakeside
Intermediate School in Chisago City. |

Saturday, October 8th, 2 pm Audubon Canoe Trip Sunrise Landing
of Wild River State Park
Don't waste a moment of Minnesota's
short, but spectacular fall season! Join us for a canoe trip down the
St. Croix River October 8th at 2 o'clock. We'll meet at the Sunrise
Landing of Wild River State Park and paddle a ten mile stretch of the
federally-designated Wild and Scenic River to the boat landing at the
state park. The paddle is about two easy hours past golden aspen and ash
trees, sandbars and floodplains, in the stunning St. Croix Valley. Don't
be put-off by the length of the trip-on a river, the water does the
work. For more information, or if you need a canoe, call Leafs at
257-6044. To get to the Sunrise Landing, take Chisago County road 9 to
the town of Sunrise. After crossing the river on 9, turn right on the
first gravel road and follow it to the landing.

Saturday, October 15th, 9 am - 12 noon Annual Bird Seed Sale
Lindstrom and North Branch (at the main stoplights)
Our only fundraiser of the year,
the Annual Bird Seed Sale, will be held Saturday October 15th from 9:00
to 12:00, simultaneously in downtown Lindstrom and downtown North
Branch. Once again, we will sell a variety of fresh, this-season seed
including blackoil sunflower, Niger thistle, sunflower chips and our
ever popular Cardinal mix, as well as suet cakes. Peterson's North
Branch Mill will be supplying the seed. We really count on you, our
chapter members, to support the sale, so we can provide you with issues
of The Current, great programs and birdwalks throughout the year and
supply the environmental newsletters, Audubon Adventures, to area
classrooms. We'll be at the stoplights in both downtowns, whether it
rains, snows or shines, and we can use workers to help at both sites.
For more information, call DeClerqs (Lindstrom site) 257-5045; or Leafs
(North Branch site) 257-6044.
