| Wild River Audubon Does Spring Cleaning
A group of WRA members enjoyed a brisk spring morning walking Co Rd
12 during Wild River Audubon’s roadside clean up on April 23rd. Cans,
bottles and fast food containers made up the majority of items found.
This year’s crew included Gary Noren, Dave Spohn, Sue Leaf, Gloria
Peterson and Dayle and Bonnie DeClercq. Audubon members have cleaned the
section of road between Almelund and Wild River State Park for 20 plus
years.
A HUGE Audubon thank you to all of the wet volunteers who made the
annual Adopt-a-River clean-up on Saturday, May 14th a success. Those
involved in rescuing three 55 gallon barrels and an old clothes dryer
from the chilly Sunrise River include: Jacquelyn Zita, Amy Ries, Jeremy
Kalin, Dawn Doering, Rick Olseen, Patrick Lien, and Kriste Ericsson.
Special thanks to hosts Willie Roettger and James Campbell and to Waste
Management, Northern Wisconsin for providing disposal of the waste and a
barbecue after the clean-up. Watch this newsletter for further
announcements regarding Sunrise River activities.
WRA Takes Students on Birdwalks
Seventeen teens increased their listening and observation skills and
braved some cold, rainy mornings as they learned to identify birds
during three days of mini-courses at Chisago Lakes Middle School. Sue
Leaf and a small cadre of adults led the group to three different
locations with a variety of habitats (meadows, woods, lakeshore, and
swamp). More than twenty seven species were located within just a few
miles of the school.
