Center City, Minnesota MapAdventure as a Lifestyle
Have you ever wanted to live far from the hustle and bustle of
traffic congestion, phones and the ever-increasing stress of making a
living? Dick Person, resident of the Yukon Territory in northern Canada,
will deliver a slide illustrated program Adventure as a Lifestyle at the
Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City on Monday, March 28th at 7
PM. Wild River Audubon will sponsor the event.
Person has been a wilderness guide for over 50 years, living most of
his 75 years in Alberta and the Yukon. For seventeen years he and his
family lived in a tipi in the Canadian bush. His life is intertwined
closely with the natural world. He was a subsistence hunter and
gatherer, living for the most part off the riches of the wilds, foraging
for his own greens and berries, shooting his own game or catching fish,
tanning hides. In the process he became a highly skilled wilderness
skills and survival expert.
Dick is a disciple of simplicity. He loves the freedom of bush life.
"Calendars, watches and clocks…they are the jailkeepers," was Person's
comment when he referred to the simplicity of living in the bush.
"People think they own things, but it's the other way around," he added.
Dick has migrated south for the past few springs to present programs
throughout the Midwest. He has served as a highly skilled wilderness
survival skills resource across North America.
Dick will have wilderness skills items for sale, including a DVD on
Wilderness Survival Skills that Brunton Compass produced in the Yukon
last year. The event is free to all members of Wild River Audubon. Cost
for non-members is $3/ individual and $5/family. Light refreshments will
follow the presentation.
